If the predictions ring true, the long weekend could be a repeat of last 2016’s deluge and destruction.
As upper atmosphere disturbances move through NSW, low pressure circulations are expected to form in this trough, resulting in periods of heavy rainfall along some stretches of the region.
Widespread showers are expected along different stretches of the coast and eastern ranges. This weather system has the potential to cause river flooding as well as local flash flooding to develop along the Hastings valley from Saturday onwards
The State Emergency Service said at this stage it is not a flood warning, but putting the region on watch in the event predictions of heavy and persistent rain eventuate.
Predictions for the Hastings River catchment indicate rain may be heavy enough to cause localised flooding in low-lying areas, as well as causing tributary creeks to break their banks.
Farmers are advised to monitor the weather and be ready to move their livestock, pumps and other equipment away from rising waters
Oyster lease operators are advised to monitor the river for possible rises and be ready to move equipment.
If this weather system intensifies, flooding could develop in the Hastings River.
If so, the Bureau of Meteorology will issue Flood Warnings along with the State Emergency Service who will release Flood Bulletins advise of the situation and what residents should do to protect property.
The SES reminds residents to never drive, ride or walk through floodwater.
