Taree Panthers under 15s ended Red Rovers two year winning streak with a 28-4 win in Group Three Junior Rugby League
Rovers have dominated the competition for the past two seasons, winning back-to-back grand finals.
The game started at a fast pace with end to end footy and some big hits from both forward packs. First try came through a great backline movement catching the Rovers out, with John Roberts scoring in the corner.
Panthers started to dominate field position and Cody Ferguson put a great short kick in for Braydon Bungie to post the second try to lead 8-0. Panthers began to dominated in defence to force a error and a kick across field on last was scooped up by Jarrad Gibson, who was playing against he's old club to cross the line to post a 12-0 lead at the break.
The second half began at another fast pace and the Panthers forwards started to make inroads with some big runs from Mat Longsdale, Samual Burnes, Trai Blair, Cody Ferguson and Ryan Long. Again the backline fired with John Roberts again scoring in the corner making it 18-0. Ryan Long took the game away from Rovers scoring the first of he's two tries besides the posts to take it to 22-0.
Rovers were next to score through Drey Mercy, who was Rovers’ best and never gave up all game. This made the score 22-4. Ryan Long put the nail in coffin when he scooped up the ball from dummy half on the halfway, broke through the defensive line to outclass the fullback one on one to score under the posts to make it 28-4.
Jake Ferris, Hayden Essery, Malachi Walker, Harry Wesley, Jarrad Gibson, Dane Hinton, Ryan Young, Lachlan Brown, Zackery Lewis were all outstanding. No man of the match was awarded as every player had a great game.
Club Taree Red Rovers
CLUB Taree Red Rovers under 12s took on the front-running Port Macquarie Sharks in Group Three Rugby League. It was always going to be a tough game, with both sides performing well over the last few years.
Rovers scored first with a great try from Xavier Wells who crossed the line a few minutes into the game. This would be the sole try from the Rovers with the Sharks scoring in the second half to even the scores for the final result at 4-4
It was an evenly matched game in both attack and defence. For the Rovers, Xavier Wells,Shaun Weldon and Blair Hamilton kept the defensive line strong and ran hard with the ball.
Tye Wallace had his best game of the season so far, while Hudson Smith proved his versatility taking on the fullback position and had a solid game.
