Wingham again started off firing with field position and eventually getting over the line to lead 4-0. This didn’t last long as bad ball control and rushing things gave Port too much possession and we were 6-4 down at half time.
The Tigers started slowly in second half and again a few knock on while on the attack let us down and we went to sleep on our own line and Port were in again to lead 12-4. Not long after the Sharks were in again to increase the advantage to 16-4.
Wingham worked their way back into the game and with field position and possession and were able to get over again to cut the lead to 16-8.
The Tigers were able to keep Port at bay and get over with minutes to spare and a quick conversion saw Wingham come home strongly at 16-12. But there was only one tackle before the hooter, with Port winning 16-12. This is the second game in a row we’ve walked away feeling we should have won. Wingham will have to improve how we finish the first half and start second.
Players’ player was Kane Evans
Under 10s
This week the 10s travelled into Taree to play the Panthers. Despite having a few players out, Wingham still had a great team to take the field.
The game started well with an early try and successful conversion to new player Jeremy Kane, who continues to improve week to week.
Taree then hit back and started to get the boys working. There were a few injuries and substitutions but the Wingham kept going.
Good defence from Jonas Horsington and Rhys Summerville took down some of the bigger opposition.
Taree ended up with the win but it was a great game with all players trying hard.
Under 9s
The under nines played at home on Saturday against Taree Red Rovers. This was a very entertaining game to watch. It was was the battle of the forwards, with the big boys smashing it down the middle from both sides. There was no score in the first quarter and about most of the second until Rovers opened with a try. Shortly after Wingham replied with a try to Laine Paulson. Not Long after the Red Rovers hit back with another try and on the third quarter wingham defended hard and there were some great tackles. Red Rovers got through the defence once more for another try, but Wingham hit back with Keanu Moi Moi getting a double and by the final quarter it was level at 3-3.
Wingham scored again with Keanu Moi Moi who took the ball near halfway and ran down the side and over for a try line for Wingham to get the win with only three minutes left.
Wingham won 4 tries to Red Rovers 3 tries. Try scorers were Laine Paulson and Keanu Moi Moi 3.
