Boomerang Bags have been available at Granty’s Fruit and Veg for the past couple of months and customer’s are borrowing them in ever increasing numbers.
“Sometimes we have none left and have to wait for them to come back,” said store owner Judy Grant.
The ‘borrow and bring back’ scheme was introduced to the store by Meaghan Lewers who distributes the bags across stores in the Manning.
It’s a simple idea.
Customer’s can borrow a Boomerang Bag and return it later to the store or or the Cottage Creek Farm stall at the Wingham Farmers' Market.
“A lot of people are really impressed by the idea,” said Judy.
One customer comes in every day.
“She has a favourite bag she has comandeered!” laughs Judy.
Not only is the scheme a conversation starter, and something a little fun for folks to get involved in, but there are the obvious environmental benefits too.
“I’ve definitely noticed the difference,” said Judy of the reduction in the amount of plastic bags she’s given out and had to re-order in the last few months.
