Reid finished the day with a score of 145, placing him third in the overall standing.
He sits behind Harrison Crowe from St Mary’s Cathedral College (Sydney) and Corey Lamb from St Joseph’s College, Lochinvar.
Reid was pleased with his form at the start of the day.
”I had two pars, a birdie and an eagle on par four which was a good start for me,” Reid said.
He saw the seeded group of golfers as his biggest challenge going forward in the tournament.
“They were one shot ahead of us to start the day so it just depends on how they go,” Reid said.
The Wingham local sparked friendly rivalry with Central Coast product Jordie Garner.
Despite finishing day one in overall fourth, Jordie claimed the gold medal for the Combined High School class ahead of Reid.
In the girls division, June Song from Tara Anglican School for Girls finished on top with a score of 146, ahead of Sydney Girls High School’s Sophie Yip and Nowra’s Kelsey Bennett.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College’s Monica Johnson finished fourth and said she was pleased with the quality of the Taree course.
“It’s a really good course, in great condition.
“The greens are firm, the fairways are cut really well,” Monica said.
St Clare’s High School’s Pyper Hollis finished with a score of 178.
Tomorrow’s action will see the round of 16 and quarter finals played before the final on Friday.
