Wingham Tigers under 11s traveled to Tuncurry to take on Foster Tuncurry. The boys conceded an easy Foster try but it didn't take long after this for the boys to score a great try by Cooper Young. The conversion just missed. The Hawks tapped off but the Tigers defence was strong with Mason Lewis and Lachlan Dawson making some strong tackles. Tigers second try by Logan Buddle from dummy half with the conversation successful.
After the half time break Willian Hansen showed some fine passing to Jett Gilbert, who ran through the Forster defence to cross only for the referee calling play back.
Cooper Young and Keoni Steadman ran hard for the Tigers but Forster went over the line again for an unconverted try. After the tap off the ball was passed to Jett Gilbert who ran half the field to put Lleyton Moore over the line and also kicking the conversion.
At the 5 minutes mark in the the second half Jonathan Aitken was injured and the game was called off with the ambulance being called for assistance. Jonathan was taken to Manning Hospital for scans and given the all clear. He will sit out next week’s game until he receives an all clear to take the field again. Thanks to the Forster Tuncurry first aid officers for all the assistance.
Jett Gilbert for his strong defence and great line breaks was the player of the match.
Under 16s
U16 v Wauchope
THIS game went from end to end with several opportunities to put down over line for Wingham while strong defence stopped Wauchope time and time again. However, Wauchope eventually got over to go in at half time in front 4-0
Second half was pretty much the same until Wauchope scored another try to go to 8-0 which spurred the Tigers into action. However, they were unable to break the duck despite getting over th eline several times but being held up.
With minutes remaining Kane Evans was able to score under posts and this was quickly converted, but Wingham ran out of time, the tigers going down 8-6, knowing they should of won this one
Under 8s
THE little Tigers wentto Taree to take on the Panthers in their round three clash hoping to build on a very good performance last week. Wingham was off to a flyer after the first quarter leading comfortably 5 tries to 0. This was on the back of some strong running from Nick Periera, Riley Schafer, Rhys Timmins and Kayden Buddle with Tyler Dale at dummy half and Taj Rogers at first pass, the boys were like a well-oiled machine. Panthers came back hard in the second and third quarter, but solid defence from Nate Welsh, Zac Moore, Corey Beattie and Andreas Bellenger kept the Panthers at bay. Final score wingham 9 Taree 7. Scorers were Riley Schafer 2, Taj Rogers 3, Nick Periera 2, Rhys Timmins 1 and Corey Beattie 1. Riley Schafer was player of the match.
Under 7s
WINGHAM Gold under seven went to Taree to take on the Taree Panthers. It was a very entertaining game of mini footy with Robert Duke scoring his first ever try. Cooper Dale and Levi West were fearless, charging the ball into the defence. Colby Butler, Rylie Murray and Curtis Lewis worked tirelessly in defence, especially with some great try saving tackles. Thanky ou to Koby Crocker and Levi West for helping us out for the day in what was a great game.
Tries Kolby, Rylie, Curtis, Robert and Coby. Players of the match for the past two weeks were Kolby Butler and Cooper Dale.
Under 9s
WINGHAM under nines played Forster to play Forster Green in round three. The boys got in to a slow start in the first quarter with Forster Green leading 3 tries to 1. In the second quarter the boys bounced back with a couple of tries and from there took control of the game with some great running from Laine Paulson and Mason Madeley and Bailey Shields and great defence from Jerome Bramble,Bailey Shields. By the 3rd and 4th quarters Wingham were unstoppable with some more great runs by Keanu Moi Moi,Samuel Lewis and Shawn Griffin with some great efforts from Leslie Garvey and Hayden Powers. The who final score was Wingham 9 tries to 4 tries Forster. That makes it two wins from two games.
Tries Laine Paulson 4, Bailey Shields 2, Keanu Moi Moi, Samuel Lewis and Shawn Griffin with one each.
Under 10s
THE boys were slow to switch on and Camden Haven scored early in the game played at Lajurieton. Points were back and forth in the first half and the boys kept it a close game.
A brief chat at half time and Wingham came out to play. All ran hard and the defence certainly had Camden Haven rattled.
All tries were converted and they went to Bradley Lamb, Zach Schafer (2), Jeremy Kane and Luke Croker. The final score was 36-22.
