The 14s girls kicked off the day well with a commanding 4-1 win. Mia Bales amazingly scored all four goals however each one was set up beautifully by a different member of the team. The first came after some great work through the midfield found Tia Schubert out on the right wing. Tia showed great game awareness as she played the through ball to find the run of Mia. The next two goals came after some strong work from the midfield who found their stride this week and worked well as a unit. Kiana Osmond-Dreyer assisted with the third goal with a superb ball expertly placed to find her striker. Thornton scored with five minutes to go after FMNC began to tire.
FMNC 16s faced a physical, strong Thornton outfit in their game. The girls started really strongly heading to half time with a 1-0 lead after an amazing wrap around run by Georgia Creswick led to her expertly finding the through ball and placing it beautifully in the back of the net. The second half was a tug of war between the two teams as they fought hard for possession. Some great defensive work from Rubi Grass in the midfield denied Thornton any space to play through but unfortunately their persistence was rewarded half way through the second half when they grabbed an equaliser and there were no more goals ending the game in a 1-1 draw.
The 18s unfortunately went down 1-0 in their game in what was an arm wrestle from the start that could have gone either way. However, 10 minutes in a long range shot from Thornton flew over the tips of the keeper’s outstretched arms to put Thornton in the lead. Some great defensive work from Molly Gamblin and Eloise Pepper in the right and left back roles and Lauren in the midfield was integral throughout the rest of the game to keep the score at 1-0 and the girls were unfortunate not to nab the equaliser in the final minutes.
