Federal member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie made the announcement on April 26 that the National Servicemen’s Association Manning Valley Branch will receive $3,741 to assist in the installation of a monument commemorating two Victoria Cross medal recipients who lived in the Manning Valley.
Oxley Island Public School will receive $2,509 to help restore the school’s World War I honour roll.
Dr Gillespie said the grants are an effective way to remember the sacrifice of servicemen and women from the Manning Valley.
"These local projects will honour the local men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in defence of our nation.
"The commitment of organisations like the Nationals Servicemen's Association in the Manning and Oxley Island Public School ensure our community can preserve and honour our local history,” Dr Gillespie said.
