She has received an official nomination in the holiday category for her song Snowflake (listen here).
“The HMMA event is just amazing and I am absolutely thrilled to be nominated again,” said Katie, who is from the Manning and currently lives in Sydney.
“Snowflake was written on a family holiday when we stayed in the small town of Les Gets in France,” she said.
“I’m not much of a skier and had never seen snowflakes fall. The whole week we we there it snowed everyday.
“I was absolutely mesmerised by the exquisite snowflakes falling and watched them ‘dance’ for hours whilst the rest of the family skied.
“A snowflake’s beauty and grace is amazing and they shone like diamonds in the snow on the ground, hence, the ‘diamond lady’ in the song.
“This gave me the idea of dancing snowflakes at Christmas time, which I used as the chorus of the song.”
Snowflake was a winner in the UK songwriting awards in 2015 and winner of the Vox Pop vote in the Independent Music Awards in America in 2016.
The song was also was runner up in the National Australian Songwriters Association Songwriting contest and Dallas Songwriters Competition in 2014.
Making the Hollywood Music in Media nomination special is the fact all involved in the song are former Taree locals.
“Laura Zarb was on vocals, Matty Zarb on guitar and it was produced by Turn Around Music.
“This is my favourite song I’ve written and I’m so happy to have such a wonderful event where it can be showcased.”
This is the third time Katie has been nominated in the HMMAs.
“We met some beautiful people at the last awards in Los Angeles and I can’t wait to go back and see them all again.
“All of the producers and executives of the HMMA treated us so beautifully, and walking the red carpet was a highlight I’ll never forget.”
Katie took her daughter Lucy with her last year and they walked the red carpet together.
“It was a moment I'll treasure forever.”
The awards see Katie mixing with some of the best songwriters in the world.
Last year’s winner of the Best Original Song for Feature Film was City of Stars from La La Land, which went on to win awards at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. La La Land composer Justin Hurwitz was in attendance at the HMMA to accept the award.
“I feel honoured to be representing Australia at such a prestigious event and am thrilled to be going back in November,” said Katie.
“I'm a big believer that if you believe in yourself anything is possible.
“I am having a writing year this year and can’t wait to showcase some new songs later on in the year.”
