It’s not just talk. There is action. About six weeks weeks ago Mr Thornton gave voice to his concerns about the lack of business and community consultation in MidCoast Council’s process to assess and review tourism branding post-amalgamation. Click here to read the story.
He championed the value of the ‘Manning Valley … naturally’ brand, called for MidCoast Council to consult with the community and challenged the community to participate in the process.
This week he announced that Taree Business Chamber would host a tourism forum on Wednesday, May 10 and said MidCoast Council’s director of community spaces and services, Paul de Szell would discuss “what council has planned for the Manning Valley and how this fits into the wider MidCoast tourism planning.” Tourism and economic development staff would also attend the forum to answer audience questions.
He now wants the community to act.
“This is a golden opportunity to get everyone together to hear from council and then provide feedback,” Mr Thornton said.
“For tourism to work in MidCoast we all need to be singing from the same song sheet. I am confident council is working on strategies to benefit our region but the message needs to be clearly communicated with the relevant stakeholders.
“Tourism is big business. In the Manning Valley we have some of the country’s most spectacular natural landmarks. From the might of Ellenborough Falls to the twin delta Manning River, Middle Brother and more. Our region is made for tourism.
“With the amalgamation of council, we now have an even broader offering to entice visitors and new business opportunities to the MidCoast region.
“All tourism industry operators and other business people with a keen interest are invited to attend.”
The forum will be held at Taree Uniting Church on May 10 from 6pm. To RSVP email info@tareebusinesschamber.com.au
