Cordner, the Sydney Roosters co-captain and back rower, was considered a certain selection after his outstanding form this year. He was among the Tri-colours’ best in the 13-12 golden point victory over St George on Anzac Day. He was also a member of Australia’s winning Four Nations team in 2016.
This will be Cordner’s ninth test match appearance. He has played six State of Origin games for NSW and is considered a front runner to captain the Blues in this year’s series.
Meanwhile, the news isn’t as bright for another Group Three product, Mitch Barnett. He could be out for up to eight weeks after injuring his ankle in Newcastle’s loss to North Queensland last Saturday night. Barnett, from Wingham, joined the Knights last year after starting his NRL career with Canberra.
