They gave life to The Battle of Passchendaele in 1917, with Cam declaring the battle “epitomizes the extraordinary bravery of the soldiers who refused to give in despite insurmountable odds.”
“You may well ask why should we celebrate a campaign where over 500,000 people died and the objectives were not obtained and where 38,000 Australians were killed or wounded, when 19,000 bodies were never identified and 42,000 bodies were never recovered as they were blown to pieces or drowned in the mud,” Quinn said.
