Shooting was at the 800 metre range under light cloud cover with a gentle right to left breeze.
With F Class B-grade the only trophy undecided, it came down to the final shoot of the year and all eyes were on the two contenders, Christina Adams and Declan Heaney.
Both Adams and Heaney have been members of the club for a little over 12 months and this is their first year to qualify for the championships.
One stage of 10 shots, followed by a second stage of 15 shots would decide the champion.
Adams took a 12 point lead into the match, putting pressure on Heaney to maintain his recent red hot form for any chance of winning the title.
At the end of the first stage, both were neck and neck, with Heaney shooting a 58.2 and Adams a 56.2.
Adams then threw down the gauntlet in the second stage shooting a personal best of 87 with three centres from a possible 90. This put the pressure squarely on Heaney, who needed to shoot a perfect second stage of 90 in order to equal Adams’ score.
Heaney dropped a point on his fifth shot and it was all over from there. After 12 months of close competition Christina Adams won the F standard B-grade club championship with a five-point lead over Declan Heaney to take home the trophy and have her name engraved on the club’s championship board.
Phil Costa finished the year strongly to win the F standard A-grade championship for the second consecutive year – the only member to win consecutive years to date in this discipline.
Duncan Robinson, another first time club championship qualifying member, takes home the trophy for F open champion thus rounding out the F class grades.
In target rifle, club secretary Tony Moon is again the A-grade champion; Jim Blackmore the B-grade champion.
Junior shooter Todd Barnard is the club’s target rifle C-grade champion
Next week is a non-competition round on the 1000 yard mound.
