Allan is the great great great great grandson of First Fleeter Matthew James Everingham and he was born on April 7, 1947 in Taree.
Matthew James Everingham was born in London in 1768 and arrived on the First Fleet in 1778 on the vessel Scarborough. His wife, Elizabeth Rimes (Rhymes) was born in England in 1774 and she arrived in Australia on the Second Fleet of convicts in 1782. It is believed the pair wed soon after Elizabeth arrived, at Rose Hill near Parramatta.
Matthew died in 1817 and Elizabeth in 1814, both at Windsor NSW.
Allan’s great great great grandparent, Matthew’s son James, was born in 1807 at Lower Portland, NSW and married Cologne Goddard, who was born on the Lower Hawkesbury in 1818.
James and Cologne’s son, James Henry was born at Mangrove Mountain in 1834 and died at Nabiac in 1928. James married Sarah Heron Nixon, who was born at Colo in 1855 and died at Gloucester in 1924.
Allan’s great grandfather Walter James was born at Wingham in 1860 and died at Taree in 1926. Walter married Annette Mary Ann Nixon who was born at Wilberforce in 1855 and died at Taree in 1926.
Allan’s grandparents were Robert Nixon Everingham and Eliza Brown, both of whom were born and died in Taree. Robert was born in 1893 and died in 1967, Eliza was born in 1894 and died in 1970.
Robert and Eliza’s daughter, Sylvia Nance Everingham, was born in Taree in 1925. She married John William Sowter, who born in Taree in 1924. They were Allan’s parents, Sylvia died in 1995 and John in 2007.
The First Fleet is the name given to the 11 ships that left England on May 13, 1787 to establish a penal colony that became the first European settlement in Australia. The fleet arrived in Botany Bay between January 18 and 20, 1788, taking around 250 days to complete the journey via Rio de Janeira and Cape Town.
