After a heavy downpour the day before the show, the rumour around town was that the show was going to be cancelled. But come Friday morning (March 31), the gates opened and the show went ahead.
Gloucester AH and P Association president Alison Kernahan said every event went ahead except for the campdraft and the post splitting competition.
“With the weather condition, I’m very happy how it all come together,” Alison said.
Many visitors to the showground swapped their fancy shoes for practical gumboots as they sloshed about.
Lots of girls put their names down for the showgirl competition, which consisted three categories, Mini (seven to 10 years), Junior (11 to 14 years) and Teen (15 to 17 years).
Mini competitors were: Lara Maslen, Isla Briggs, Irelyn Want, Georgia Hughes, Selina Denyer, Georgia Ellis, Elana Pope, Summer Edwards, Melody Maslen, Mackenzie Schafer, Jessica Marchant, Charlotte Marchant, Alicia Martin, Shania Richards and Alicia Edwards. Winner was Melody Maslen, runner-up Summer Edwards and third, Selina Denyer.
Junior competitors were: Rachael Smith. Toreen Denyer, Jessica Kernahan, Bianca Turner and Brooke Turner. Winner was Jessica Kernahan and runner-up Brooke Turner.
Teen competitors were: Winner Miranda Riley and runner-up Brianna Martin.
The general consensus from the spectators who attended both Friday and Saturday, was that the bull ride on Friday night was a standout event.
Alison said the show wouldn’t have been possible without all the volunteers.
“I couldn’t have done it without all of them.” More photos on page 10
