The upgrade works, which span a length of around 700m, will be conducted by a contractor on behalf of MidCoast Council whose crew will be on-site from 7.30am until late Sunday afternoon. Motorists will be directed through the site under traffic control, and at times, short detours may be in place.
“This is another reseal project we’re undertaking using savings achieved through the merger”, explained Daniel Park, Manager Operations (North) for MidCoast Council. “By complementing our existing reseal program, we’re effectively extending the life of our local roads”.
Resealing is a maintenance treatment that targets the worn or cracked top layer of a road, providing protection and preventing the formation of pot-holes. Spending around $5 per square metre in resealing a worn road delays the need for more extensive reconstruction works, at around $60 per square metre, when the road fails.
While scheduled to take place on Sunday, the work in Commerce Street is subject to weather conditions over the next few days. If delayed, the works will be rescheduled. To stay updated, please visit www.myroadinfo.com.au
This project is part of an additional resealing program made possible through the $30million roadcare program, funded by the MidCoast Council merger.
