The children spent the session going through kicking, handballing and modified tackling drills before finishing off with a 12-a-side game.
Mid North Coast AFL Development Coordinator Scott Dalton said these skill sessions can allow children who have not played the sport before to gain an interest.
“It’s actually really exciting because none of these kids actually play for the local club and they’ve never had AFL here before.
“We’re showing 50 new kids the great sport of AFL,” Scott said.
The participating students are encouraged to be a part of the Paul Kelly Cup, the largest AFL primary school competition in NSW and the ACT.
The Cup consists of 12 player teams competing in round robin carnivals in places such as the Mid North Coast.
All games are played on smaller fields with modified rules.
The competition is open to both boys and girls who are in Year 5 or 6.
