I was involved in helping at the Upper Lansdowne Country Fair on Sunday March 12. The weather being perfect had brought over 1000 visitors to our tiny village.
Covering the event for the hall’s Facebook events page, I had my camera, a song book and my hat in my arms when an incident happened on the road amongst the traffic which distracted me. I had put my handbag on the ground and walked back to the fair.
Visitors to the fair – a young family from Forster – had seen the bag on the ground as they left to return home. The lovely people checked for my ID in the bag.
When I got the bag back all items were in there. It gave me relief that someone had been so honest and so respectful that I needed to write this letter. My faith is back in society, well definitely our region of NSW.
Dear lady, I am thanking you.
Via the Facebook page for the Upper Lansdowne Hall I had communication with the woman. In an email she wrote:
My grandfather is Greg Payne. His father was born in Payne's lane.
My great great grandmother, Mary Cicolini was a person of honour on a plaque for the opening of the Upper Lansdowne Hall as well.
My family’s history is Payne's Lane and also Cicolini Lane. The Payne family only sold our original farm approximately eight years ago. I think that Upper Lansdowne is 'God's country' and will always have a special place in my heart.
