One of the many joys of being involved in a car club is obviously having the chance to share some time with people with a similar interest.

Pretty essentially there are two types of clubs. Firstly those who cater for a particular marque or style of body and more generally clubs who cater for a eclectic mix of vehicles.
Great Lakes Historic Automobile Club is such a club and caters for a normal range of older cars plus commercial vehicles and motor bikes. So much so, that our official club badge encompasses it all with its troika depicting a car, a bike and a coach.
A recent event was a good glimpse of this variety.
Bill and Anne Coulton led off in their classic 1939 Chevrolet, Dick and Marcia Fancourt following in their last of the line, 1981 Chrysler Valiant. A couple of relatively rare Jaguars were out for the day with Cheryl Williamson at the wheel the family’s 1986 Jaguar XJSC, and Michael StJohn Cox along in his similar cooking version of the same model.
Meanwhile in the heavy iron division, Albert Waldock was on his initial run in his ‘new’ 1983 Cadillac DeVille and along with Arthur Broadley in his prime example of a 1971 Triumph 2000, bought up the rear of the pack on the way to our coffee break at Coolongolook along with one of our visitors/prospective new member for the day, Trevor Besst from Bulahdelah on his classic Royal Enfield.
So if variety is the spice of life, suffice to say we have it in spades!
If you have an interest in older vehicles or just enjoy motoring related matters generally, why not come along to one of our regular monthly meetings, which are held on the first Wednesday of the month, commencing at 7pm, at the Bellevue Hotel, Function Room, Tuncurry, where you will be made most welcome.
It’s not necessary to own an older vehicle, but should you decide to purchase one, there is a wealth of expertise in the club, to help you with unbiased advice, in deciding on your choice.
The club is affiliated with many other clubs actively involved in the preservation of our motoring past, and as such, a wide variety of events, both social and otherwise, are regularly on our calendar.
For details of coming events or membership, call secretary, David Kelvin, on 0407 106 616.
