Fay, an author, therapist and amputee, recounted the moment her left foot was severed by a train in Sydney at age 11 and the painful aftermath both she and her family experienced.
In 2011, after enduring a severe foot infection Fay made the decision to have her foot amputated.
Fay said she is often asked does she wish she removed it sooner.
Fay said: “No I don’t – I really believe I did it at the right time. I have no regrets”.
After the initial accident Fay was told she would never have the capacity to work – but she proved the experts wrong time and time again.
“I survived a lot of things because I spoke my mind,” she said.
“I had a lot of people not backing me but I believed in myself. It takes a reckless spirit to ignore the experts.”
Fay is a peer support volunteer for Limbs 4 Life. A generous donation was made by Taree Quota to the Limbs 4 Life charity.
