After threatening rain delayed the coin toss to 2pm, United captain Ricky Campbell had no hesitation in sending Taree West to the crease.
A soft pitch beckoned the downfall of Taree West as they were rolled for just 80.
United’s Jordi Gilfillan showed why he is considered one of the league’s premier bowlers by taking another five wicket haul.
In his first outing as Taree West captain, Dean Mills said the side’s form was out of their hands.
“Obviously it wasn’t the best result, we knew it would be tough.
“Because of the pitch we couldn’t play our natural game,” Dean said.
He ensured the team was up for the challenge when the aim of the game was just to survive.
With seven wickets in hand at stumps, Ricky said lower order batsman will be given their chance when play resumes on Saturday.
United hold solid ground at the top of the table, gifting them the minor premiership.
Ricky said the side’s experienced lineup has produced depth with both bat and ball this season, the catalyst behind the club’s success.
Taree West are set to battle it out with Wingham in the coming weeks to secure a grand final berth.
