The performers played to a full house on Tuesday, with audience members toe-tapping and singing along over the duration.
Cassidy Donovan, who appeared in Mary Poppins in 2015, brought the house down with her rendition of Whitney Houston’s One Moment in Time, the crowd giving her a standing ovation. She also sang How Far I’ll Go from Moana.
George Hoad opened the show with a Broadway-inspired medley featuring Lullaby of Broadway, Give My Regards to Broadway and There’s No Business Like Show Business. He later performed I Won’t Send Roses from Mack and Mabel.
Pam Phillips chose two songs to perform that honour the time she has been with Taree Arts Council, singing Bali Ha’i from South Pacific (the first musical she did) and Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins (her most recent).
Accompanying many of the performers were musicians Bob Berrigan and Paul Gallagher – who also gave their own performances.
Adding to the variety was an entertaining reading of the Alex Broun play Bake Off, performed by Lyn Moore, Dawn Walton, Pat Wolfenden and Kylie Cleaver.
Deidre Sutherland, John Holme and sisters Clara, Chelsea and Courtney Wilson also presented Titania’s Bower from William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The audience was also treated to some instrumental music by the Albert Quartet (Ian McLeod on oboe, Helen Tompson on clarinet, Patrick Guest on cello and Margaret Thomas on flute), and again by Frosa Bell on keyboard.
Other performers included Jodi Cooper, Dale Kidd De Pyper, Paul Eade, Alex Wilson, Ton Grooteman, Will Knight and Liz Hall.
Each performer was well received and Taree Arts Council has had very positive feedback from audience members.
Joining the line-up on Saturday are Wil Hellstedt, Georgina Saad and Mary Camphuis.
Spotlight on Taree Arts Council has been an opportunity for the organisation to entertain its local community in a year where there will be no major musical production being produced.
The concert was devised and co-ordinated by president Paul Eade.
Spotlight on Taree Arts Council is on Saturday February 25 at 7.30pm at St Mary's Hall in Taree.
Light refreshments will be provided. Tickets are $20 or $15 concession and are available through Bass'n'Blues in Albert Street, Taree.
