The caravan, which was abandoned at the Taree Showground, will now become housing for youth in the Nambucca Valley.
MRAHS grants officer Alan Richards read an article in the Manning River Times calling out for caravans to be donated to Nambucca Valley Community Men’s Shed in order to address the shortage of accommodation options for young people.
The caravans will be refurbished to create a suitable space for a young person in need of housing outside the family home.
The vans will be parked close to support accommodation (in the family’s backyard if appropriate) giving the young person support and stability to help them complete their schooling.
Men’s Shed co-ordinator Stuart Holmes said the caravans provided a better option than residential homes because they gave youth their own private space.
