The Taree-born batsman has helped rescue the Blues from the precarious position of 2/7 after the home team won the toss and elected to bat. NSW went to lunch at 2/101, with Larkin 68 not out.
NSW lost co-opener Daniel Hughes for 0 and Ed Cowan, also for 0 in the first half hour of play.
However, Larkin fell short of making his second Sheffield Shield century when he was dismissed for 86. He faced 138 deliveries and hit 11 boundaries.
