Australia Day is always a popular day with Great Lakes Historic Automobile Club members as they assemble their cars for display at the Great Lakes prime tourist friendly venue John Wright Park, right on Cape Hawke Harbour at Tuncurry.

Some 20 of the club’s cars attended the event and were joined by several cars from our sister club in Taree along with some other interesting cars and as always the members of Donks from Nabiac with their quirky display of historic stationery engines.
Sadly, light rain saw about half the cars leave mid morning, but it was a very successful day.
Brothers Wilf and Doug Hardy deservedly attracted much attention in their classic red sports cars, the iconic 1947 MG TC and the ground hugging 1955 Triumph TR2.
New member Alan Duncan caught the eye of younger fans with his very original 1978 Suzuki FWD, with stalwarts Jodie and Dave Neville along in their equally ‘cutsie’ 1954 Austin A30.
Meanwhile for fans of ‘yank tanks’, Bill Coulton and Dianne Tipping had the pre war-post war span covered with their respective 1939 Chevrolet and Dianne’s 2015 ‘Australianised’ Mustang.
Australia’s own were not forgotten, (this being Australia Day after all!) with Kevin Barnard there in his 1967 HR Holden, Harvey and Ros Haworth along in their pristine 1966 HR Holden Premier, Ron Bevitt in his 1977 HZ Holden and saving the best for last (sorry my bias is showing – just a little – OK a lot!), Dick and Marcia Fancourt in Tonsley Park’s finest, their ‘new’ 1981 Valiant.
If you have an interest in older vehicles or just enjoy motoring related matters generally, why not come along to one of our regular monthly meetings, which are held on the first Wednesday of the month, commencing at 7pm, at the Bellevue Hotel, Function Room, Tuncurry, where you will be made most welcome.
It’s not necessary to own an older vehicle, but should you decide to purchase one, there is a wealth of expertise in the club, to help you with unbiased advice, in deciding on your choice.
The club is affiliated with many other clubs actively involved in the preservation of our motoring past, and as such, a wide variety of events, both social and otherwise, are regularly on our calendar.
