All 10 sides will be involved along with 11 referees.
Taree Touch president Graham Goodwin said all sides will be vying for the championship. In other years Taree teams played by invitation, as Taree is part of the Northern Eagles Region.
Mr Goodwin said the standard in the Hunter championships is strong and this is an ideal build-up for the State Cup to be played in Port Macquarie from Friday February 17 to Sunday February 19. Taree will be represented in all 10 divisions at the State Cup.
Meanwhile a record 55 teams took part in the annual Taree gala day played at Taree Recreation Centre.
Sides came from Newcastle to Macksville.
“The teams all played four or five games on the day. There were no overall winners in the divisions and we didn’t keep scorecards,’’ Mr Goodwin said.
Mr Goodwin said the gala is growing in popularity and is now a favoured event for North Coast and Newcastle associations keen to use the matches as a lead-in to the State Cup.
Taree’s State Cup sides were selected last October and all have resumed training after a brief break over Christmas/New Year.
