And although he didn’t win, the 18-year-old singer and songwriter loved every minute of it.
I didn't set out to win. I set out to win over the crowd. And I have lots of new fans.
- Angus Gill, Wauchope singer/songwriter
“I didn’t set out to win, I just set out to win over the crowd. I knew I was the most different contestant there. I don’t tick the boxes of being the most mainstream act, but I feel so proud to have achieved what I did by being a finalist,” he said.
“Troy Cassar-Daley never won, but he was a finalist in Star Maker twice. Everyone who’s had a successful career has been there. It was a fantastic atmosphere. I went out there and had a fun time.”
Angus played a gig at the Atrium in Tamworth today (Monday January 23), and people came up to him and congratulated him on his Star Maker performance.
“It was amazing. I didn’t win, but I’ve a much bigger following than I had before.”
Angus will be in Tamworth until Saturday and has lots more gigs, as well as emceeing a very prestigious show – the Tamworth Songwriters Association awards night.
And he was full of praise for Rachael Fahim, the 2017 Star Maker winner, and all the other finalists.
Guy Sebastian surprised the crowd by singing during his guest appearance, to the delight of many screaming young fans.
“To have a superstar like Guy Sebastian in Tamworth supporting country music’s talent quest is a big coo for the industry and proves that the Australian country music industry is going from strength to strength,” Festival Manager Barry Harley said.
All of the action of TCMF continues this week, culminating in the closing concert at Toyota Park on Sunday night.
