There is a very good case for naming the new Badgery’s Creek Airport after Nancy Bird Walton, after all she was one of Australia’s most famous aviators.

I would not doubt that Tony Abbott would like to make a Captain’s Call on the subject. Kate Dwyer said in her column that few women have been honoured in the past. The only one that comes to mind is Lady Macquarie’s chair and she had to sit on it and tell everybody to bugger off as she claimed if for herself.
A petition placed in as many of the shops in the Hastings Shire I think would pull in enough signatures to convince at least our own state government that we are interested in what it is called. My suggestion is “The Bird Walton Airport”. She deserves it as she started as an ordinary person and worked hard at a dangerous job with little recognition until recent years. Few could tell you who she was but with an airport carrying her name they might ask.
