Natalie Portman and Pablo Larrain are on stage at the historic Wintergarden theatre in Toronto, during the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. The audience, full of Hollywood insiders, is already talking about an Oscar for her performance as Jackie Kennedy in Larrain's new film, Jackie. This is before we've seen the film. The American woman beside me tells her friend that you have to be prepared to work hard for that statue. "Colin Firth did 55 red carpets when he won his," she says, which starts me wondering. Who on earth counts such things? Answer: agents and actors, of course.
