To mark the new library’s 10th anniversary the team, made up of many of the same friendly faces, invites you to join the celebration with birthday cake and coffee on Monday 9 January.
Taree library has been serving the Manning Valley community for almost 50 years, first opening its doors in 1969.
It was with great excitement, on January3, 2007, when they officially opened the new premises, bringing a relaxed, contemporary community hub into Taree’s CBD.
Unlike the days of old, Taree’s library is a constant hive of activity, attracting people of all ages and walks of life.
Chris Jones, manager for libraries at MidCoast Council, explains, “Our libraries are no longer silent zones, they’re a place for people to come together, relax and enjoy a range of modern facilities”.
As well as offering its members books on loan, today’s resources include downloadable eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines and streaming films along with computer access, WiFi and printing services.
And as a venue Taree library in recent years has hosted study nights for HSC students, transformed into an after-hours live music venue, screened movies, delivered live streams from Sydney’s Opera House, and hosted countless well-known author visits.
“From its humble beginnings, Taree library is now a unique and appealing space that’s been embraced by the whole community”, added Chris.
A free birthday morning tea will be held at Taree library, 11am on Monday, January 9, with birthday cake and giveaways.
Everyone is invited to come along and share in marking this important milestone.
Bookings are not required, however if you would like more information, give the library team a call on 6592 5290.
