The Steer North Ride aims to raise funds for cancer research and patient care by cycling from Melbourne, Victoria to Cairns, Queensland.
The team made their way to Taree on Tuesday to a welcoming party and lunch provided by the Rotary Club of Taree.
Rotary of Taree President Murray Difford said the ride upholds the values of the club.
“It’s an event that fits in very well with what we are doing in terms of raising funds, serving the community, and helping those community issues especially when it comes to health,” Difford said.
The Rotary Club has tracked the progress of the team through social media and updating members of each leg of the journey.
The ride has been 18 months in the making with all riders helping out to make the trip possible.
This included organising food and accommodation in every town visited as well as completing a mandatory two thousand kilometres of cycling time before attempting the Melbourne to Cairns trek.
Rider Laura Bird said the time and effort will be worth it when they reach Cairns.
“I don’t even know what I will be feeling.”
“I’m just excited to keep going as the journey has been amazing so far and there is still so much more left to come,” Bird said.
The riders were the special guests at Tuesday’s Rotary Club of Taree Christmas party.
