In the next installment of The Wall Project, Manning Regional Art Gallery will come alive in the new year with an exhibition that explores ‘place and displacement’ through interactive word paintings.

Local wordsmith Tess Kerbel is the latest artist to host The Wall, transforming it into a unique journey-board that combines prose and poetry with watercolour.
Under a theme of city/country, and place/displacement the exhibition will build and evolve as gallery visitors are invited to participate with Tess in a collaborative, modular story.
“I’m interested in the places where the boundaries blur together,” explains Tess, “like the boundaries between visual art and writing, or between prose and poetry”.
From its initial installation, the display will feature a blend of creative writing and watercolour images that express the relationship between people and places, “including the erosion of self through displacement, and the ultimate displacement of humanity through the destruction of our habitat,” Tess adds.
Acting art gallery director Rachel Piercy is looking forward to involving the community in Tess’s project.
“We’ve had a tremendous response to The Wall Project so far, and amazing contributions from people of all walks of life in our interactive exhibition.
“Place and Displacement is a theme that everyone can relate to, so it will be exciting to see the progressive build as viewers add to the collage over the course of the exhibition”.
The Wall Project ‘Place and Displacement’ opens at the Manning Regional Art Gallery on Wednesday January 4 and runs through to Sunday February 5.
Visit during normal gallery hours to participate, and enjoy concurrent exhibitions at the same time - ‘The Frugal Forest’ and Mid North Coast Art Societies ‘Confluence’ (both on until Sunday January 15).
