Mr Colvin was Manning chairman for four years. He will officially stand down at the association’s annual meeting this month.
Mr Colvin attended his first Hockey NSW meeting in Sydney in December
He explained the board is charged with the responsibility of growing the game throughout the NSW, starting at grassroots level. This will include bringing a number of initiatives already operating in Manning Hockey to State-level.
“Playing under sevens, nines and 11s on small fields will be one,’’ he said.
“This gets the kids having more hits on the ball and enjoying the game with their mates and that’s what we want to encourage. As they grow older they obviously move to the bigger fields.’’
Mr Colvin will stay involved with Manning Hockey as the project manager for the construction of the third turf field at Taree Recreation Centre along with the extensions to the clubhouse. MidCoast Council has called for tenders for the work. Mr Colvin hopes the clubhouse will be completed by April or May while he expects work on the third turf to start this year.
He assured the work won’t impact on matches played in the Manning competitions next season.
