Now it’s Wingham’s turn to benefit from our local Rotary Club’s plans to erect a fitness station in Central Park.
Local Rotary members have been meeting with Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead to harness his support to receive the $30,000 funding needed to complete the project.
To do this, Stephen Bromhead needs to prove to the Ministers, the Premier and Deputy Premier that the community is behind the initiative, and so needs your signatures.
A petition has been created and can be signed at LJ Hooker, on the corner of Isabella and Bent Streets, Wingham, and online at https://www.change.org/p/wingham-rotary-excercise-equipment-in-wingham-park.
Also be on the look at for a stand in front of the newsagents.
But you need to hurry – the petition will be handed to Mr Bromhead on December 9.
Wingham Rotary Club member Ken Patterson was instrumental in the Taree Rec Grounds fitness station project when he was a member of the Rotary Club of Taree.
If funding is forthcoming, the plans are to erect four exercise machines plus a shade sail in a corner of Central Park.
“This sort of thing would be beneficial for any community,” Mr Patterson said.
“I know of people who travel to Taree to use the equipment there so it’d be wonderful to have it in our own backyard.
“I think this would be a very important piece of infrastructure for our town – Wingham deserves it. It benefits kids, adults, everyone,” Mr Patterson said.
Mr Bromhead is an enthusiastic supporter of the project.
“I’ve already called on the Premier and some of my Ministerial colleagues to support this important community project. We’re making strides and we’ll continue to push for funding,” Mr Bromhead said.
“The $30,000 cost is a small price to pay to keep our communities healthy and active.
“It’s impressive to see so many members of this tight-knit community come on board to support the project,” Mr Bromhead said.
