The tender for the redevelopment has been awarded to Sydney’s AW Edwards Construction.
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead said construction of an elevated car park deck over the current ground level parking on the Pulteney Street side of Manning Hospital will begin in January.
It is unknown at this stage how many more car parks will be made available.
Following the completion of the car park, the High Street car park will be demolished to make way for the new Renal and Oncology Unit building.
Lower Mid North Coast Sector Manager Jodi Nieass explained the building will be three levels.
The bottom level will be a specialty car park, for renal and oncology patients, level one will be the renal and oncology unit.
A second level will be used for imaging, as part of the stage two redevelopment.
A spokesperson for AW Edwards said “to begin construction is an exciting milestone”.
“All the hospitals staff gave great input into the design process,” the spokesperson said.
“When construction starts they can start to see the fruits of that process”.
