Thousands of blood bags, as well as stockings, need to be filled across Australia this Christmas.
Taree still needs more than 150 volunteers to donate blood before Christmas and New Year in order to prevent a shortage of blood products vital to the treatment of cancer patients.
Adding to the donor number is Doug Freeman, who this week has made his 220th blood donation.
Doug gives blood every two weeks and is encouraging others to start donating too.
“The more people the better,” he said.
Spokesperson for the Australia Red Cross Blood Service Felix Palmer said, “the greatest gift of all will cost you an hour of your time and could help to save or improve three lives”. He said a blood donation is a gift money can’t buy because it allowed people to spend time with those they love.
