Morgan returned an excellent round of 71. It was his second major success at Taree this year following his win in the Manning River Open last August. Travers Anderson won the net in the junior classic with 60.
Although the field for the classic was down there were some top performances recorded.
Golfers hit off in cool and overcast conditions although it was warm by the time play concluded at noon.
There were two events in two divisions, the junior and cadet boys and girls. Both were stroke events with the junior open over 18 holes under championship conditions. The cadets played nine holes.
Madelaine Laws-Farrell did enough to win the girls with 89 off the stick. The net prize went to Quedesha Golledge with 73.
Harrison Golledge made it a family affair by winning the cadet nine hole while Ella Scaysbrook was the best of the girls with 53.
It seems that in quality, if not quantity, our golfing future is secure.
Meanwhile played at Taree next Saturday will be a stableford sponsored by McGrath Meats. The following week will be the Christmas medley four ball sponsored by Steve Ison and Bob Coleman.
