Despite holding a range of skills and qualifications the students can still find it difficult to get a job. Student Suparna Dutta of Bangladesh holds a masters in sociology.
Whilst confident in her writing and reading in English, Suparna was not confident to speak on the phone in English. She said, “now it’s easier, I have no hesitation”.
Uli Walther of Germany, a former sales manager, said the course has also improved his English. Migrant Settlement worker Jane O’Dwyer said, “many migrants lack confidence speaking English and with a little patience you find the language difficulties are easily overcome.”
TAFE teacher Janette Miller praised the students for their enthusiasm and energy.
“These students would be fantastic employees; they work hard, have many skills and are always keen to learn.”
If anyone has any inquires please contact Jane O’Dwyer, Migrant Settlement worker at Manning Valley Neighbourhood Services on 6553 5121 or 0497 832 079 or Janette Miller on 6591 3711.
