But when money is tight, presents for themselves can be the last on the list or not even considered at all.
Paula Hagan of Mitchells Island doesn't want anyone to miss out this Christmas.
As part of Share the Dignity’s It’s in the Bag campaign Paula is collecting women’s hand bags filled with toiletries and essentials.
The donated hand bags and goods will go to local women who are living in disadvantaged situations whether it be homelessness or those escaping domestic violence situations.
Paula is a mother to two daughters and a son.
She said she couldn’t imagine herself or her two daughters going without the bare essentials like pads, tampons, deodorant and so on.
Paula said there’s other products that we often take for granted like nice moisturisers and perfumes, which would be really appreciated by those in need.
Paula started collecting at the end of October and has been amazed by the generosity and amazing donations she has received so far.
Collection points include Taree’s Braithwaite Family Dental on Albert Street and Old Bar’s This & That Unique Homewares 1/51 Old Bar Road (next to Network Video).
Donations will be accepted up until Saturday, December 3.
This is the second time Paula has taken part in a Share the Dignity campaign after getting involved with a sanitary collection drive earlier this year.
For those interested in donating to the It’s In The Bag campaign, bags must be in a good condition and may include:
