At Melbourne’s Flemington racecourse on the first Tuesday of November all eyes may have been on race seven the Melbourne Cup but there were nine other races that day.
On that day seven of the 10 races were won by the progeny of stallions that stand or stood in the Hunter Valley. Also nearly 70 per cent of the top four placegetters were sired by Hunter stallions.
All top three placegetters in in four races Ottawa Stakes, Schweppes Flemington Fling, Lexus Hybrid Plate and MSS Security Sprint were progeny of Hunter Valley sires.
High Chaparral (dec) that stood at Coolmore stud, Jerrys Plains sired the winner of the Lexus Hybrid Plate Jennifer Lynn. he also sired the winner of the James Boag Premium Stakes Fabrizio.
Scone’s Yarraman Park stallion I am Invincible has enjoyed an outstanding carnival being described by the stud as a star performer at the Flemington Carnival.
I Am Invincible sired his third Group winner of the Flemington carnival when the brilliant filly Invincible Star made a winning debut in the Group III VRC Ottawa Stakes on Cup Day. And his barn mate Hinchinbrook put up the winner of the Listed VRC MSS Security Sprint on Cup Day in speedy mare Flippant.
The unstoppable mare Winx won her second Cox Plate. She is a born and bred Hunter lass – a daughter of Darley’s Street Cry (dec).
