When Gary Cox retired from a corporate career in the city he not only moved to the country he bought himself a present.
“It was my reward, it’s a real boys toy!” he said of his 2011 Morgan 4/4.
Gary custom ordered the 4/4 from the Morgan factory in the UK.
The family-owned Morgan Motor Company Ltd have been hand building Morgan’s since 1909 and make more than 1300 cars a year.
At one time it is said new owners had to wait up to ten years for their car to be ready.
Fortunately Gary only had to wait nine months before his little red sportscar was shipped to Australia.
“It was fantastic when it arrived,” he beamed.
The Morgan 4/4 has been in production since 1936 making it the longest running production vehicle in the world. Made with a Ford engine, Mazda gearbox and aluminium body it’s definitely not an ordinary new car.
“It has a real sportscar feel,” said Gary.

Gary’s neighbours in Wingham were initially shocked by the appearance of the curvy Morgan but were soon delighted when Gary took them for a drive.
He has continued to cause quite a stir in the friendly town. Gary also owns a DeLorean and it is not uncommon for him to rock up at a local cafe for breakfast in the DeLorean and return for lunch in the Morgan.
“It causes great confusion,” he laughs.
The Morgan has a real wow factor and Gary enjoys the ride. Recently he enjoyed an eight week sojourn to Tasmania and the vineyards of South Australia.
He says he’s finally got used to the long bonnet.
