In recent weeks, social media conversations have fuelled suggestions that Spotlight Taree would relocate from its Victoria Street, Taree location to the Masters site. Also thrown into the mix is JB Hi-Fi, one of Australia’s largest retailers of electronics and entertainment goods.
Today a spokesperson for the Spotlight ownership group, John Frey of Gracosway responded to questions by the Manning River Times.
“False alarm! Spotlight are not relocating that particular store to the Home Centre,” Mr Frey said.
JB Hi-Fi operation director Peter Green also ruled out occupying the Masters Taree site stating, “at this stage there is no development in the Taree district that has been presented or is under current consideration.”
Fairfax Media also recently reported that American discount giant Costco could come to Taree after Masters vacates its site.
Costco Australia managing director Patrick Noone told Fairfax Media that “we’re always interested in new sites but right now it's pretty confusing so I don't know how it's going to work out,” Mr Noone said.
“I don't think there's any definites there yet. We're going to grow the business organically, as opportunities come up we'll grow.”
Masters announced on August 25 that they would cease trading on December 11.
