Last month, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad Port Macquarie commenced an investigation following reports a 14-year-old girl had been indecently assaulted.
Following extensive investigations, a 60-year-old man was arrested at Taree Police Station just after midday last Friday October 12.
The man was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault, sexual intercourse with a person aged 14-16 years, and supply prohibited drug to a child.
Police will allege in court the man sexually and indecently assaulted the girl, and supplied her with cannabis, while she was in his care. He was refused bail and appeared at Taree Local Court on Saturday October 22, where he was bail to appear at the same court tomorrow Tuesday October 25.
Alternate care arrangements were co-ordinated for the girl last month.
The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.
