Katrina was a member of the Australian championship winning NSW 55s side that played in Hobart.
Her campaign looked over in the match before the semi-finals when a ball deflected off a stick and slammed into her face, breaking her nose. She was taken to the sideline, but eventually returned to the field. However, team management considered sending her home.
“But when our coach saw me go into a tackle he knew I was going to be okay,’’ she said.
Katrina, who was the team’s vice captain, played in the semi-final and the final, won 1-0 by NSW over Queensland. It was NSW's third successive win in the 55s and Katrina’s second. Her daughters, Emma and Vreanna surprised her by turning up at Hobart to watch her in action, Emma from Newcastle and Vreanna from Sydney. They were watching when she was injured.
