The screen has been funded by Taree Wingham Race Club with assistance from Krambach Race Club. It will be the only facility of its kind between Newcastle and the Gold Coast and will show local, Sydney and interstate races along with re-runs.
Taree-Wingham Race Club chairman Greg Coleman said it will be a particular boost for patrons attending the Melbourne Cup day meeting at Bushland Drive on Tuesday November 1. He admitted the club had been criticised in past cup day meeting for a lack of televisions on course.
“It won’t be a problem now,’’ he assured.
Mr Coleman said the new screen will also replace the club’s ageing semaphore board.
Mr Coleman said initially he hoped the screen would be in operation in time for the Taree Cup meeting.
"That didn’t happen, but we’re looking forward to seeing how it goes on Friday and then on cup day,’’ he said.
