Narelle had hepatocellular carcinoma, a common form of liver cancer.
The Taree mother of two waited on the transplant list for around three years, until the right donor came up.
Narelle said she is one of the ‘lucky ones’ and now wants to support those waiting on the transplant list and who have also had the procedure.
Narelle has organised a ‘Ladies Old Fashioned Afternoon Tea’ to raise money for the Liver Transplant Unit at Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital, where she had her procedure.
The afternoon tea will take place at the Taree Leagues Club (Cowper Street, Taree) on Sunday, November 13 at 1pm.
There will be a fashion parade by Margo’s Boutique along with raffles and lucky door prizes.
Afternoon tea will be a collection of delicious savoury and sweet treats.
Narelle’s ambition is to buy a washer and dryer for RPA’s transplant unit.
“Some people can be stuck in hospital for months after their transplant,” Narelle said.
“I was lucky my husband Mark would come and take our washing away each week, but others just don’t have that type of support.”
Narelle said when approaching local businesses she has been overwhelmed with the support and generosity.
“It’s an emotional topic for me, but they have been so willing to support me and my story.”
Tickets to the Ladies Old Fashioned Afternoon Tea are $20.
Narelle said they need to know catering numbers as soon as possible, so if you would like to go please contact her on 0439 538 232 or Janelle Smith on 0447 637 770.
