The girl guides received a $15,000 grant under the State government’s Community Building Partnership Program to undertake vital refurbishment of their hall and to install disabled toilets and a bathroom.
Unfortunately, when the builder started work he discovered problems with the concrete slab.
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead has called on the State government to back the Forster-Tuncurry Girl Guides request for an urgent $5000 grant.
“It would take a long time for the group to raise the money by holding lamington drives and so on. This situation is not their fault,” Mr Bromhead said.
“We want to encourage every organisation that works with young people and keeps them doing things for the good of the community.
“Like other Girl Guides groups, Forster-Tuncurry Girl Guides plays an extraordinarily important role in the electorate of Myall Lakes and in the Great Lakes area.
The local organisation has taken up a petition and so far attracted hundreds of signatures in support.
“The group has raised a petition to get as many people in the community to support this, and acknowledging that the Government is sympathetic to these types of causes, I have called on them to support this extra funding,” Mr Bromhead said.
