There’ll be three events at local water bodies in the first week of the school holidays, suitable for children age four and up.
Children will use dip nets to catch critters in the water, then try to identify them and interpret what story the bugs are telling us about the health of their ecosystem.
On Tuesday, September 27 the activity will investigate what lives in the Cattai Wetlands at Coopernook. On Wednesday, September 28 investigations will start from the Hallidays Point Library, and on Thursday September, 29 the exploration moves to dam at the Tucker Patch at Gloucester.
“Water bugs are fascinating little creatures,” said Kirsty Hughes, MidCoast Water’s activity guide.
“We find so much more than tadpoles, and kids love learning about what story they tell us about the quality of the water.”
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Interested families can book to attend the free events by contacting Kirsty on 6592 4830, via education@midcoastwater.com.au or by contacting the Hallidays Point Library about the event departing from there on the Wednesday.
This activity is also available during term time for schools and other groups.
