So said president of the Manning Horticultural and Agricultural Society (MHAS) Milton Johnson, as he and other society members watched the roof be ripped from the more than 90 years old Cattle Pavillion at Taree Showground.
“Sadly it just got beyond repair,” said Milton.
But for the society it was also a moment of joy, with member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead announcing a $120,000 grant to build a new Cattle Pavilion.
MHAS grants officer Allan Richards worked relentlessly to secure the two grants, with $18,000 also received from the State government to remove the building.
“This shed will bring something we can be proud of,” Allan said.
Allan explained the shed will be dual purpose, for exhibiting livestock and storing valuable equipment to the showgrounds.
For this year’s upcoming show a temporary shed will be erected for the beef cattle section.
The Taree Show is on October 8 and 9.
