Valerie Audet has been a volunteer at the Manning Entertainment Centre since it opened in 1988 and was involved in campaigning for it to be built in the first place.
“It’s what we hoped for, something that was purposefully built,” she said.
Although she doesn’t usher for every show, she is a familiar face to the many people who attend the theatre.
“We are here mostly when we can or when we’re very interested in a show or when they need us. If someone asks you accept.”
Val said she enjoys the camaraderie between the ushers and just being involved with the arts.
“I’ve always been involved in the theatre. I started singing when I was nine years old and although I’m too old to get on stage now I want to be a part of it. This is a wonderful place.”
Her highlights at the theatre include the ballet and Mark Vincent.
“I think Mark’s going to be the next Pavarotti in the world.”
